COLMAGEL® was created in 1990 by PROMAFOR SOVEMA. It is an original blend of synthetic polymers specifically developed for sealing water losses in artificial reservoirs such as dams, ponds, dykes, canals, lagoons, etc.
Sealing ponds and water reservoirs with Colmagel®: an effective and high-performance solution
Ensuring the waterproofing of a pond or water reservoir can be a challenge, especially when dealing with leaks that are difficult to locate. Colmagel®, thanks to its expansive polymer sealing technology, offers a fast, effective and long-lasting solution to reduce water losses without the need for heavy construction work. Easy to apply and environmentally friendly, this product stands as an ideal alternative to traditional methods for maintaining basins, canals, lagoons and dams.
Why use Colmagel® for pond waterproofing?
Colmagel® is an innovative product specially designed for sealing water leaks in artificial reservoirs such as ponds, dams, dykes, canals and lagoons. Thanks to its unique blend of synthetic polymers, it effectively reduces water losses by plugging cracks and forming a durable waterproof barrier.
A powerful product with high expansion capacity
Colmagel® comes in the form of white 1 mm granules that, once in contact with water, can swell up to 200 times their volume. This mechanism optimally fills cracks and ensures long-lasting waterproofing.
How Colmagel works
1 – Colmagel® is spread in a uniform layer on the water surface. 70% of the granules sink to the bottom, while 30% remain on the surface. Some granules are immediately drawn into cracks at the bottom of the reservoir.

2 – In less than 15 minutes, each granule absorbs water, up to 200 times its volume. Colmagel® is composed of an adhesive polymer that forms a layer of sticky, highly viscous product.
This layer encases the other component of Colmagel®, the expansive polymer, which swells 50 to 200 times to reach a foam rubber-like consistency.
The adhesive polymer is drawn into the cracks, pulling the expansive polymer granules along with it.

3 – Within 12 hours of applying Colmagel®, water losses begin to decrease significantly. The expansive polymer blocks cracks by continuing to swell.
The adhesive polymer forms a waterproof film for porosity-related losses.

4 – These sheets, at maximum expansion with an average volume of several litres, are drawn into the large cracks not previously sealed, blocking them.
One week after treatment, the product has reached its maximum effectiveness.
The creation of a layer of plant debris, particularly in autumn, will then make the sealing permanent.

Precautions: beware of fish!
Although Colmagel® is neither toxic nor polluting at recommended doses, it poses a potential danger to fish if ingested before swelling. Indeed, its high expansion capacity can lead to risks of internal blockage and mortality in fish that have absorbed the granules before their activation in water.
For this reason, Colmagel® must not be used in the presence of fish. It is essential to remove all fish from the pond before treatment and to wait 7 days before reintroducing new fish.

Application method for optimal sealing
Applying Colmagel® is simple:
- Recommended dosage: 75 g/m² of water surface.
- Application by spreading: manually or using a blower spreader for even distribution.
- Ideal conditions: calm weather, water above 7°C, no wind or rain.
- Effectiveness: leak reduction in less than 12 hours and maximum performance reached in one week.
A proven and validated solution
Colmagel® has been used since 1990 with a 100% satisfaction rate among its users. It is an effective alternative for ensuring the waterproofing of ponds and other water reservoirs without heavy construction work.
